Why We Need Donations
Founded in 1967 as the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Galveston County, Bay Area Pet Adoptions/SPCA is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and No-Kill shelter that relies on your donations to house feed and medically care for the dogs and cats taken in our adoption program. We are not operated or funded by any national animal group and must rely on contributions from people like you to keep our shelter open. All financial contributions and in-kind donations are tax deductible. Read more about us here.
Every dog six months of age or older is checked for heartworm at Bay Area Pet Adoptions. Dogs who test negative are started on heartworm preventative and remain on preventative while they are in our care. While a heartworm positive dog can be treated if the dog is otherwise healthy, the treatment is very expensive. The treatment cost is based on the body weight of the dog. On average, the cost to our shelter is about $500 per dog. However, the treatment for large dogs is more expensive. Please help us treat our heartworm positive dogs by donating to our Heartworm Treatment Fund. We accept cash, checks, Visa, Master Card and Discover. To donate online with a credit card use PayPal:

We are the only No-Kill shelter in our area and we need your support. More importantly, homeless dogs and cats need your support. Our area is full of kill shelters, without us even more dogs and cats will be euthanized.
Occasionally, some of our great adoptable animals require special medical care, medicines, supplies, and even surgery. Please help us with these costs by donating to the Medical Fund. Please designate that your donation is for the Medical Fund on your check or PayPal donation.
Another way to support us is via iGive.com. They have many retailers in their network that will GIVE US A DONATION if you purchase through iGive.com. It is a free service and you will need to create an account with them. Once you do, select Bay Area Pet Adoptions as your cause and every purchase you make with one of their member retailers will earn us a donation.
You can install the iGive.com button on your browser for quick access to all their options once you are registered. http://www.igive.com/SPCA
